Short introduction by Jules Ruis

My name is Jules Ruis; I am 64 years old and I live in The Netherlands.

  • During a period of 25 years I was the management consultant and advisor of the executive board of the Eindhoven University of Technology in the Netherlands.
  • In the last 20 years of this period I also conducted some fifty management courses. For the Philips Electronics company I assisted about a thousand university graduated officers on their way to a management function.
  • From your own experience, management courses make use of a variety of questionnaires (Maslow, Hersey and Blanchard, Handy/Harrison, Mintzberg, Drucker, Porter, Prahalad, etc), and after years of working with those questionnaires, I was not satisfied with the results. The students were only given fractionized views to work with in their organizations and its relevant environment; no integration of the own separate results was realized.
  • In 1999 I started a process of research, in mathematics, arts, design, nature, religions, etc., searching for self-repeating patterns and self-organization in nature (live organs) and in 2000 I started this internet Fractal.org Competence Centre.
  • In 2001 to follow this up with the BeNe Life Sciences/Technology Initiative. See mainindex and click number 'C'.
  • End of 2002, as a result of my experiments, I succeeded in 'producing' a real 3D fractal-tree in wax. See mainindex and click number 'D': Fractal Reasearch and Fractal Products.

Below I present two new results of research in the field of fractal geometry.

the "Awareness Management Model"

and

the "Julius Ruis Set"

  • I checked the results with prof. Benoit Mandelbrot (Yale University and IBM) and  prof. Bob Daveney (Boston University) and they agreed with the scientific part of this publication.
  • My fractal-discoveries are based on thousands (better say millions) of my experiments over the last three years, mostly in my private evening/weekend hours. (I am a lucky man; my wife is still with me).
  • Tacit knowledge and observations of nature (especially plants and flowers) played an important role in the way I proceeded.
  • I started with re-arranging and re-ordering the existing management tools on three levels: basic/self awareness, business awareness and global/regional awareness and I created a set of hundred powerpoint-presentations placed together in what I call the 'Awareness Management Model' ('Bewustzijns Besturings Model' in Dutch). Click on "A".
  • After which I did thousands/millions experiments of the Mandelbrot set and the Julia set and I succeeded to present on my computer screen, in a very efficient way, 400 Julia sets, showing the Mandelbrot set. I called this smart presentation (with a little smile) the "Julius Ruis Set". Here you see the JR-set for the function Z(n+1)=Z(n)^2 + c.

  • My following step was the investigation of different mathematical functions. I grouped these functions in three classes: the inverted complex polynoms, the complex polynoms and the transcendental complex functions (sine, cosine and exponentional). I succeeded in the discovery of more then 10 variables (parameters) to have an influence on the presentation of the JR-set.
  • In the end I succeeded to translate the output of many 'classical' questionnaires into inputs for the JR-set. I changed the general model BBM in a personalized and integrated presentation. The inverted complex polynoms of the JR-set became a metaphor for the basic awareness of persons. The complex polynoms of the JR-set became a metaphore for the business awareness and the transcendental complex functions were used for the global/regional awareness.
  • The next scheme shows the dynamic transfer from information to awareness to action.

  • In August 1999 a complete new and unique metaphor for organisms was born. The results were applied  in a new management course 'Training Interaction Management', in which top-level managers from universities, business and governmental organizations participated. For more information go to the mainindex and click on number "B."
  • At the Eindhoven University I became the secretary of a steering committee in charge with the setup and development of a new academic engineering course on Industrial Design Engineering (IDE), that was started in September 2001. This new course has to do with the fractal way of developing new products. It pays much attention to the productcreation process. For more information go to the mainindex and click on number "F".
  • The Fractal Way is a new way of thinking about and observing people, organizations and societies. I use fractals as a metaphor for growth of living systems.
  • The Julius Ruis set is to be seen and recognized as the first step in the development of a new kind of communication as part of an evolving, living world.
  • My interest is to look for people interested in this fractal way of thinking and feeling.
  • Interested parties to be introduced to examples of my research-activities should run the programme BBM.exe.
  • After the programme has been started, answer the first question with 'y'. The examples numbered 1 to 5 will show you the Julius Ruis Set.
  • The first question answering with 'n' enables you to create your own fractal/JR-set. Input 'Basic' and make your choices. If you don't understand the input-parameter then click on 'enter' as a standard. At the end the metaphor for your personal basic awareness will appear on the screen. Look and be amazed!
  • All elements of chaos theory are shown: chaos at the edge, complexity, a dynamic and adaptive system, boundary change, inside-outside mirroring, self-organization, etc... The presented colors are indicating as well a natural as a mystical sense (western and eastern outlook/insight).
  • But more specifically you will note important future aspects for a well-connected world of life (interaction, interconnectivity and adaptability), summarized as "Time (x-axis), Space (y-axis) and the Relations (form and color of fractals) with other people".

    Fractal Imaginator (Fi)

  • After years of research the internet company 'Fractal.org' has launched a very advanced computer program for the creation of fractals.
  • See press release 2005: www.prweb.com/releases/2004/12/prweb190789.php
  • The new program is named 'Fractal Imaginator (Fi)'. It was designed by Jules Ruis (The Netherlands) and programmed by Terry W. Gintz (USA). Terry is among the top ten in the world of programmers in the field of fractal software.

    What are fractals?
Fractals are mathematical objects (2-dimensional images as well as 3-dimensional real objects) constructed by iterating mathematical formulas. The results are presented as unique and very beautiful images consisting of repeating patterns.

    Data-files
Using the program Fi you can input your own mathematical formulas and other relevant data. The created images are saved as bmp/jpg/png files or obj/stl/pov files. The image parameters are stored in separated data-files (.fim files). This way of storing can save much computer capacity.

After purchasing and installation of Fi on your own computer the Fi program will be automatically loaded and started by clicking the fim files on the internet page www.fractal.org (just like Adobe pdf files).

    Fractal Science and Art Gallery
Thousands of fractal images have been constructed. Some are purely scientific, others look like colorful art. The results are placed in the Fractal Science and Art Galleries.

Fractal Tree Scaffolds for Tissue Engineering
Fractals are the language of Nature. Coastline, clouds and rivers are good examples. But also nature consists of fractal forms: trees, plants and human organs like brains, lungs and blood vessels. A special application for Tissue Engineering can be found on: www.fractal.org/Fractal-tree-scaffold.htm

    Downloading
The fractal software 'Fi" costs $30,00. Purchasing is via internet:

    Free to educators
The Fractal Imaginator Fi is very suitable for scientific research and education. A complimentary copy of Fi is available free to educators.
